bad 12"shelf supports
handyman

The 12" white diagonal shelf supports are not, in my opinion, made/designed very well even though they are sold at various places. First, you have to bend the ends some to get them to fit the wall and shelf, why? The slot at the end that goes on the shelf is shorter than it used to be, not good, causes less support from the bracket. Also, the rounded end that goes partially around the shelf is too wide to fit snugly, why? In my experience the longer slot provides for better bottom support. I have been using the old supports because they are better made and designed, and use new screws and anchors in the wall. If wish I knew who makes the better better supports, in my opinion, as you do not.

After reading these reviews it looks as though most problems are due to inexperience and/or improper installation. We've used this product for over 10 years and guarantee all our work. In 10 years, we've only had one call back to repair a failed bracket. We do occasionally get calls to repair shelves that were installed by others, and the cause of failure is usually improper installation. In short, take time to educate yourself on how to properly install, or save yourself a lot of headaches and hire an experienced installer that warrants their work.

This bracket is the worst designed product I’ve ever seen. It doesn’t work. The part that connects to the shelf is upside down. Who designed this? Who tested it? Who are the buyers at the big box stores that ordered these, even though the reviews are dismal? Don’t they monitor returns?

I have replaced these three times now, and I've been in my apartment for one month. I even had a contractor make sure I was installing them right. They're just super flimsy and can't support much weight

I used these to put up two shelves in my bedroom closet. The weight of the clothes pulled the shelves off the supports. I am not sure what to do at this point to fix, I am going to have to rig something on my own to support the shelving.

These brackets use pins to connect to anchors. After using them several times I found that the pin heads are to small and the bracket will pop off. The hole in the bracket is to big for the pinhead mounting area. In one case I used washers and in another I changed to suitable screws, both solutions worked. Closetmaid needs to include washers or change the size of pin head or just switch to screws. I did not find the brackets flimsy, just difficult to mount and stay in place.

Slowly all of our closets are returning to just a rod and board for a shelf. These looks nice and all but anything more than maybe baby clothes and they fall down. The angled supports just fold up and drop your stuff in the floor.

junk

We installed Closetmaid shelves throughout our house in 2001. Almost every shelf has since collapsed because these cheap, weak, lousy supports bend and allow the entire shelf to fall. I see from recent reviews nothing has improved in the last 16 years. Sad that Closetmaid doesn't listen.

Much lighter weight than previous/older design. Do not use if you have any need for real support.

I agree with the other reviewers. They are very flimsy brackets, and they won't support much weight. I had several bend and give, causing my closet shelves to collapse. What a mess! Never again!!

This has to be the worse design for a shelf bracket in my experience. They will not support any reasonable weight and will collapse suddenly dumping everything on the shelf. Junk!!!

Weakest support bracket ever
Handycoach
Jul 31, 2014
Do not waste your money!! These things are thin and will not support any of the weight they claim! I just finished my 3rd set of these, in studs, and only 24" apart rather than the 36" closet made recommends!!! These support brackets just bend after 2 months of use and less than 100# of weight! We use a wire self in the laundry room for clothes to be put up and these brackets have collapsed and bent out of shape every time!! Complete waste of money!!!
