Terrible instructions
Alex
2020-11-10
My review is mainly concerning instructions for install. At least on the packaging for the one that I purchased, the instructions for install clearly show the bracket going between the wires, in all examples of use. After rereading the instructions in bewilderment several times with all involved with our move-in to a new place, we decided to mount the bracket as instructed. The bracket lasted about 3 days. After doing additional research, discovered what the other reviews have noted. Place one of the wires between the forks. They should be able to print that on all packaging, as their other kits show this clearly.

Ignore the directions, put the wire between the claws

People would know how to install it correctly if they put a correct drawing on the bag the product comes in. Instead, they illustrate it wrong so no wonder 80% of newcomers install it that way and then curse ClosetMaid.

Flawed design
Ronnie

I have read the directions carefully, watched YouTube videos and done everything possible, but this is a flawed design. I have the brackets in the studs and I've made sure the shelf was level but these will not hold the shelving in place. I put the basics on the shelf, shirts and pants and still the wire shelving pops out of the bracket. Save yourself the headache, putty, and paint touch ups and avoid this product.

Horrible design
Dan

I really do not understand how they missed this. The clips on the end of the bracket support the shelf from above so it very easily slips out??? This design is terribly stupid and very frustrating.

Yep - install correctly!

Agree with Dave & Allan. If you don't install correctly, you will have issues (like any other product...) The slit in the end of the bracket is designed to fit one of the "wires" in between. Love the karate chop analogy...

Dave is right, install properly!

At first I thought it was a bad design because I installed it wrong. Now even with a moderate load and me trying to get it to fall, it holds like a champ.

No worries....

I've used these support brackets in three different houses in over 20 years. I've had no issues with them. I made sure that I used the right number of supports for the load and the length of the shelf. I have had no worries with them....

Changes made to this product from years past
PME

BEWARE! - We had an already installed shelf "fall" from the wall. The reason was because the plastic clips broke. In the fall the two 12 inch metal support brackets bent. I went to my local big box store and bought two new metal support brackets. Came home to find out that the end that fits on the shelf has been changed and the material the new bracket is made out of is not as sturdy as my old now bent brackets. I will be returning the new brackets to my big box store and turning to eBay to purchase the older model sturdier brackets.

Install it right.

Mine work great. To all the negative reviewers; it sounds like it was installed wrong. Try this: 1. Look at the top of your bracket where it connects to the shelf. It will look like 2 curved claws. 2. Use one wire on the platform (top of shelf) and fit it between these claws. Now the shelf is supported. If you are relying solely on the curvature of the claw to hold up the shelf it will definitely fall. Still don't understand? 1. make a "peace" sign with your hand. 2. use your other hand to karate chop straight down between your upturned fingers. 3. Congratulations. You have now successfully demonstrated how these brackets were designed to hold weight.

Actual rating is a ZERO
SKS

My actual rating is a ZERO but I couldn't submit this review without at least one star. These brackets are useless with their 'over hook'. Closetmaid's help desk doesn't even call them 'support' brackets anymore. They said these are for preventing the shelf from popping out of the hooks. I am replacing cracked end brackets installed by builder 20 years ago. After reading all the other comments and lack of response by Closetmaid, I will not be purchasing their products anymore.

Same issue as above - shelf falls out of bracket.
PC
2017-03-02
As the other reviewer posted the shelf falls out of the angled bracket with very little weight on it. The idea of gripping the shelf from above as opposed to simply holding up from below makes no sense. These shelves were professionally installed. I am not impressed by this design.

BAD Design

(actually a "zero" star rating) Worst bracket design ever! It needs some positive way the shelf cannot fall (front of shelf rotating down). After installing per directions and loading shelf, everything came tumbling down with just a slight wrong touch. My solution was to wire the shelf and top bracket fork together.
