Installing Shelving in Corners

In a walk-in closet, shelving can be installed into corners in two different ways. A corner shelf kit may be utilized or two shelves can be installed, one ending at the wall and the other ending at the front lip of the first shelf.

If you are using a corner shelf kit in a new closet (one without any shelving already installed), you will need to position the corner shelf at the appropriate height. Wall clips are positioned two inches from the ends and the corner and two more clips are inverted and placed in the middle of both sides. Mark clip locations, drill 1/4" holes, and install anchors. Then install the corner shelf. Make sure that your shelves are aligned with the corner shelf so that the joiner plate will connect them properly.

For installations with existing shelving, you will need an 18" space for a 12" corner shelf (used with 12" shelving) or a 20 3/4" space for a 16" corner shelf. Mark existing shelves and cut to allow for corner shelf installation. Be sure corner shelf is at same height and level with other shelves. Then install as mentioned above.

When two shelves meet in a corner, one shelf will end at the wall. The other will require a support bracket. A corner support is useful in keeping the two shelves level and provides some additional support in the corner. The corner support simply fits under the deck wires of one shelf and over the wires of the other.
